Terms & Conditions

Find your Italian ancestors. Claim your roots

Last updated: 25 July 2026

These Terms describe the basis on which I provide my services through italianancestor.com. By sending me an enquiry or a document, or by commissioning work, you agree to these Terms. Please read them together with my Privacy Policy.

Who I am

Italian Ancestor is the professional genealogical research practice of Clemente Suardi, professional genealogist and member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG). For general enquiries you can write to info@italianancestor.com; documents for transcription or translation reach me at info@italianancestor.com.

What I provide

I provide genealogical research and the transcription and translation of historical and civil records, so that you can read, understand and use them for your family history or your citizenship file. My transcriptions and translations are accurate professional work intended to help you understand your records. They are not sworn or legally certified translations: if you need a certified or sworn translation for an official procedure — such as an Italian citizenship application — that is a separate, formal service, and I will point you to the right route.

Quotes and payment

The prices shown on the site are indicative. Before any work begins you always receive a fixed quote, and work starts only once you have accepted it. Payment terms are agreed at that point. If a project turns out to require substantially more work than expected, I will tell you and agree a revised quote with you before continuing — I never add charges without your agreement.

Timing

I give honest estimates of how long work will take, but these are estimates, not guarantees. Genealogical research depends on archives, municipal offices and parishes whose response times are outside my control. I will always tell you what to realistically expect, and keep you informed if a search takes longer than foreseen.

What I can and cannot promise

I commit to careful, honest, professional work. I cannot promise a particular genealogical outcome: some records are lost, damaged or were never kept, and some family lines cannot be documented. I am transparent about this from the start — if a line cannot be traced, I tell you plainly rather than filling gaps with guesses. A quote covers the research effort and the documented results I deliver, not a guaranteed discovery.

The documents you send me

By uploading or sending a document you confirm that you are entitled to share it and to have it examined for your family research. Please send only lawful documents relating to your own research. Only image and document files are accepted through the form; other file types are refused. How I store, protect and delete your documents is described in my Privacy Policy.

The work I deliver to you

The transcriptions, translations and reports I prepare are delivered to you for your personal and family use, with sources cited so you can see where each fact comes from. The original records themselves belong to the public archives that hold them; what I provide is my documented reading and translation of them. You are free to use my deliverables for your own family history and citizenship purposes.

Limitation of liability

I carry out my work with professional care. To the extent permitted by law, my responsibility for any project is limited to the fee paid for that project, and I am not liable for decisions taken by third parties — such as consulates, courts or citizenship authorities — on the basis of the records and translations I provide. Nothing in these Terms limits any right you have under mandatory consumer-protection law.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by Italian law. Any dispute that cannot be resolved amicably will be subject to the competent Italian court, without prejudice to any mandatory protection you enjoy as a consumer in your own country of residence.
